Treats of the Week
Friday, November 26, 2010 at 5:43PM It's been a busy week with the launch of our most recent NFP Pulse Survey on Revenue Streams, but I did manage to dig up quite a few great reads for you on the #nonprofit web.
Before I share them with you, I wanted to remind you that the Pulse survey closes early next week. If you haven't done so already, I hope you will spare five minutes to participate - we are putting together a free highlight report of the results, so you've got nothing to lose and everything to gain. Info and a link to the survey can be found here.
Now that I've finished my shameless plug, here are my faves from the past few days:
To Go Mobile or Not to Go Mobile?
There has been a lot of hype about the future of mobile technology and its potential in the non-profit arena with some mixed feelings coming to the forefront this week. In this post on Frogloop, Allyson Kapin suggests that developing mobile apps might be a waste of time and money for nonprofits.
Wild Apricot’s Rebecca Leaman also took a look this week at Social Gaming for Nonprofit Marketing. In contrast to Allyson, Rebecca looks at how gaming is being used for social good and shares this must-see Ted talk by game developer, Jane McGonigal on how she is developing ways to use gaming to make a better world.
Leadership
I really enjoyed this post by NTEN’s Holly Ross on the question: Is it Managers or Leaders that We're Missing ? She also shared this epic short video on what Dancing Guy can teach us about leadership by Derek Sivers.
Volunteers
In this post on the Low Hanging Fruit Communications Blog, guest writer, Nick Cooney shares some great tips on how to rev up your volunteers.
Getting Technical
And last but not least, the Blog Tyrant points out the importance of getting subscribers for your blog or website and offers up some good advice on how to do it.
Have a great weekend, everybody!
