TED Talks for Nonprofits...Part Deux

I'm addicted to TED talks. When I need a break from my daily to-do list, I like to check out some of the newest additions to their impressive roster of world-changers, innovators and thinkers.

A couple of weeks ago, I posted an initial list of recent TED Talks that have bearing on the nonprofit world.

Since then, I've compiled a few more...

Jason Fried: Why Work Doesn't Happen at Work

Come on...admit it, you're finding it hard to concentrate and get much 'real' work done this week, right? Its almost holiday time for many of us which usually means a whole lot of running around being busy but not accomplishing a whole lot.

According to Jason Fried, this isn't just a problem that happens leading up to the holidays. Constant distractions in the typical workplace that include meetings, managers popping in to see how you're doing and tons of other tiny and non-stop annoyances are having a significant impact on productivity in the workplace today

Jason talks about why this has to change and puts forward some suggestions to boost 'real work' in your own organization.

William Ury: The Walk from 'No' to 'Yes'

In this talk, William Ury discusses his experiences as a conflict resolution facilitator involved in some of the worlds most complicated and longstanding conflicts.

He feels the secret of conflict resolution is the 'third side.' In other words, the secret to resolving conflict is the community that surrounds it.  In addition to being able to tell a great story, I can see how William's ideas can apply equally well to conflict resolution at an organizational and even personal level.

Isabel Allende Tells Tales of Passion

I can't wait to get my hands on this woman's books: She is not only sage but she shares her wisdom in a straighforward way and with a wicked sense of humour.

Isabel starts her talk off by saying "Question: What is truer than truth? Answer: A story."

She then goes on to wind a tale with the common themes of story telling and the need for passion in order to make change - something that is at the heart of what many of my readers do on a daily basis.

Do you have any TED talks we just have to see? Please share!
